 BACKGROUND

The Capital Region Minority Chamber of Commerce has been a leading voice for minority-owned business enterprises in the Mercer County region since 2004. We provide active support to small businesses owned by minority ethnic groups, women (SMWBE), members of the LGBTQIA community, veterans, people with disabilities, and others with an overarching goal of driving economic development and prosperity in our region.

As the focus on culturally responsive business practices increases, CRMCC is poised to serve as the conduit to provide DEI engagement and learning for New Jersey’s business community. Our Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) strategy will offer ongoing learning and insight on inclusive and equitable business standards, policies, and practices across various industries. Diversity is a critical element in expanding a company’s diverse workforce and earning potential.  IDEA is a new initiative that is ideal for any size company seeking to transform and enhance quality service through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

OVERVIEW

The Inclusion Diversity Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) learning series will set new inclusive, diverse, and equitable business standards through learning and capacity building.  CRMCC offers a series of five professional development opportunities for business leaders focused on DEI at the organizations. This initiative is ideal for helping DEI leaders, employee resource group leaders, and DEI advisory boards and councils to engage in outcome-driven dialogue regarding matters that often don’t feel “discussible” in many workplaces.  Completing the learning sessions allows business owners and their employees to stay on the cutting edge of diversity, equity, and inclusion trends that impact businesses.

The initiative will hold space for individuals to work through the complexities of navigating more diverse workforces. These leaders will hear various perspectives that shape the landscape of IDEA in the workplace. Participants will adopt a common language and share understanding with business leaders from multiple industries. The experiential learning process will also outline critical analysis of behaviors and policies aligned with more respectful, inclusive workplaces. The topics will include historical reflection on the origin of race in our nation, attributes of “brave spaces,” psychological safety, inclusive leadership, allyship, and intentional DEI strategic planning. Participants that complete all five sessions in the series will receive a certificate of completion from the CRMCC.
